This creamy hemp and oat porridge is a warm, nourishing breakfast packed with plant-based protein and fibre. Blended hemp seeds create a naturally silky texture, while oat flour adds comforting body and thickness.


The porridge is gently spiced with cinnamon or cardamom and topped with soft caramelised apples cooked with coconut sugar and a hint of lemon.

Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp oat flour (about ¾ cup / 65 g)
  • 6 tbsp hemp seeds (about ½ cup / 67 g)
  • 1 cup water (for blending)
  • 2¼–2½ cups plant milk
  • 1½ tsp cinnamon or cardamom (or both)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1–2 tbsp coconut sugar (optional)
  • 3 small apples (or 2 large), sliced or diced
  • 1½ tsp coconut oil
  • (or a splash of water for oil-free version)
  • 1½ tbsp coconut sugar (about 21 g)
  • 1½ tsp cinnamon
  • Squeeze of lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional:
  • raisins or chopped dates

Directions

  1. Blend hemp seeds with 1 cup water until creamy.
  2. Add the oat flour and blend again until completely smooth.
  3. In a saucepan warm 2¼–2½ cups plant milk over medium heat.
  4. Add the hemp-oat mixture, spices, salt and sweetener if using.
  5. Simmer on low to medium heat for 8–10 minutes, stirring frequently until thick and creamy.
  6. In a separate pan cook the apples with:
  7. • coconut oil
  8. • coconut sugar
  9. • cinnamon
  10. • lemon juice
  11. • pinch of salt
  12. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the apples soften and become slightly syrupy.
  13. Optional: add raisins or chopped dates.
  14. Spoon the warm porridge into bowls.
  15. Top with caramelised apples and your favourite toppings.
